Link popularity defined is the amount and quality of sites that are linking to your site. If your site is brand new, your link pop is zero. Having zero link popularity means that your site will get zero or very little traffic from search engines. You need to get sites to link to yours! Of course there are many benefits of working on this; there are also many methods.

Methods of Increasing Link Pop

Link Trading - You can simply trade links with other websites. You add a link that goes to their site, and they will add a link that goes to your site. This exchange will benefit both of you. The theory behind this is that Google and the other engines know that you obtained the link by trading, and so the value of the link is discounted somewhat.

In general, we don't recommend using this method because it is extremely risky. If the search engines find out what you're doing, you could be banned entirely. For this reason, don't do it! It can be effective, but may not be worth it.

Forum Marketing - Marketing in forums can be a good method of building links. Forums are places where people go to ask and answer each other's questions. If you are well educated in your field, you can help others and get links to your site at the same time. You talk to other people in the forum, and place a link to your site in your signature.

Some forums will allow you to do this, and some won't. Some forums won't allow you to place outside links, and if they don't you should be respectful by taking your business elsewhere. There are plenty of forums that will allow it.

Press Releases - Many newspapers have online versions, and so a press release sent to all the newspapers could get you some valuable links. Links from newspapers are considered to be really high quality, so this would be an excellent method for almost everyone.

Large newspapers are generally harder to get your name in. We would recommend taking a shot at the local papers in your area. Local papers are generally looking for material to publish. A nice press release about your business might hit the spot.
